| Celtic Supporters Yeovil Visit 2004
|
Ever since Yeovil Town first entered the Football League in 2003 and chose to change their playing kit to green and white hoops the supporters have built up a very friendly affiliation with the supporters of Scottish giants Glasgow Celtic. This started during that first season in the league when a group of their supporters came along to Yeovil’s away match up at Carlisle then later to the away fixture at Darlington. Friendships were soon forged, and later that season a group and Green and White Supporters Club members made the journey up to Glasgow to see Martin O’Neil’s team beat Livingston 5-1 in a great match at Park Head. This relationship continued to grow, and eventually resulted in 15 or so Scottish supporters coming down to Huish Park in December 2004 to watch the Glovers take on Grimsby Town.

| This brilliant day started off with Paul Hadlow taking a mini bus up to Bristol airport to collect the Celtic supporters off the plane from Glasgow. He then drove them down to Yeovil where they booked into their hotel. Paul then went to Huish Park to open up the shop while the lads freshened up and got ready for the match. Paul then drove back to the hotel to take them to Huish Park for the game.
They populated an area at the Westland side of the Bartlett Stand dressed in their green and white hooped shirts, and many donning kilts too. It was a cold day, but they definitely helped to warm the air with their good

natured banter through out the match. At half time they came down onto the concourse in front of the Bartlett and spent time chatting and laughing with Glovers supporters with the green and white hoops of each team soon blending into one happy union.
The boys on the pitch did the occasion proud too with a splendid 2-1 win over the Grimsby Town. A goal in each half was enough to give the Glovers a good win over the battling Mariners side. A professional display soon paid dividends for the Glovers when Lee Johnson made the break though just before half time scoring with a belting 30-yard free kick. This gave Gary Johnson’s men heart and they started the second half as they had ended the first by scoring. In a wonderfully crafted move Phil Jevons received the ball on the left, and sent it to Andrejs

| Stolcers who then put in a fantastic cross to Bartosz Tarachulski on the far post to head home. Grimsby scored late on, but really from the minute Jonno scored his goal the game was won.
The result the Celtic supporters in an even better mood and they subsequently came down to the far end of the stand and seemingly shook everyone’s hand as they left the stadium. What a fantastic advert for football! ... After the stadium was empty Paul ferried the lads back to their hotel before the shindig in the evening. Di Kingston who was there describes the night as quite a do and subsequently takes up the story from here on in.
The Celtic fans were really thrilled with the reception the Westland stand gave them, and even more chuffed after the

match, by the number of Yeovil fans who sought them out just to shake their hands. What a lot of us don't know about is the party arranged by some members of the GWSC committee in the Supporter’s Bar in the evening. We had a disco and buffet which went on until midnight and plenty of time to chat and get to know the guys from Scotland. (Thanks to Martin’s break dancing on the floor, we now know what a Scotsman wears under his kilt!)
Di went on to talk about the brilliant atmosphere and all the singing and dancing that went on - ending brilliantly with a great rendition of ‘You'll Never Walk Alone’. The talk of the evening though was Mr Paul Hadlow. Following his kindness of driving the Celtic lads throughout the day they refused to let him buy any drinks in the evening. This meant that he had a

| constant flow (Gush more like!) of cider all night. You can imagine the result!!! He got totally plastered, and finished the night with a new nickname – Bendy Legs!! Paul said afterwards that he had never been so drunk, but he also said that he could not remember such as great night out!!
Finishing off Di continued by, on behalf of everyone thanking Gayle & Paul for organising such a wonderful evening. She did though insist that some pictorial evidence of Mr Hadlow’s escapades should be put on the website. Sorry Di, as hard as I tried I just couldn’t do it. Woops!! Oh dear look what just happened to fall onto

the page below!! - - Sorry Paul!! Ha Ha
|
| As Di so rightly put it - Payback time for all those "asleep" photos on the coach on the way to away games!
|
| A big Thank you to Di Kingston for the pictures and her input in the write up
